Here is Maria’s question:
Can someone tell me if this is correct, I went to the embassy and was denied Dual Citizenship, I was born 1969 in the USA, my mother at the time giving birth to me, she was a Philippine citizen, she is still alive and I brought all the required documents, but was told due to the philippine constitution that I would have to be born 1973 or higher, but by doing all the research, there was nothing anywhere indicating the year you have to be born in order to become a Dual Citizen, should I get a second opinion from the embassy again?
And, here is our response to Maria’s question:
Hi Maria – No need for a second opinion… what you were told is correct. Unfortunately, there is a small window in the law that does not allow people born in 1969 to obtain dual citizenship.
Thank you Maria for visiting. I am sorry that I didn’t give you the answer your were obviously hoping to hear.
